Bishop Thomas' Coat of Arms

May 5, 2007

Dear Friends:

In the Gospel of John, Jesus says, "As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."

It is because of our love for one another that we have, in the Diocese of Helena, a tradition known as the Diocesan Offertory Program. Through the DOP we are able to support a dignified retirement for our priests', a family life and ministry program, Project Rachel, pastoral outreach work, religious education, emergency assistance for priests, youth and young adult ministries, campus ministries, the Diocesan resource center, Aid to the Needy, the Guatemala Mission and many other works of mercy and love. And how great your love! Last year, the DOP goal of one point six five million was surpassed! How great your love and how grateful my heart.

The theme, "Light the Way," continues to guide us as I begin my fourth year as your Bishop. Like a lantern on a lamp stand, like a city on a hill, your love lights the way for others, teaching those around you that Christ IS light. So I ask you once again to support our Diocesan Offertory Program. As you review the DOP materials you have received I ask that you consider two things. First, pray in thanksgiving for the blessings in your life. Second, recognize how you and those in your own family have been served through one or more of the programs of the DOP. Then make your pledge accordingly.

Let every gift be given in gratitude and multiplied by grace. Let every member of every parish share their wealth and prayers as they are able. Let the light of love shine in the Diocese of Helena so that others will see and rejoice.

Thank you for your generosity.

Sincerely in Christ,

Most Rev. George Leo Thomas
Bishop of Helena
