Third year of Protecting God's Children training offered

The Diocese of Helena is in its third year of offering the “Protecting God’s Children” training program for adults. This training is required for all employees and volunteers of the diocese working with children. Beyond the initial training session, monthly bulletin updates assure a continued awareness and education, noted Judy Ober, the diocesan Safe Environment training coordinator.
Any adult employees and volunteers who have not received the training should plan to do so soon. To view the current schedule of adult training sessions available, go to www.diocesehelena.org/smp.
In the spring of 2005, the parental training booklets titled “Protecting God’s Children” were distributed to parents throughout the diocese. The booklets are available for any parent who requests a copy. Those interested should check with their parish religious education coordinator.
The first session of the “Protecting God’s Children” for children and young people was conducted in the fall of 2005. The program has been expanded and parishes are asked to provide two sessions each year (normally in October and March). Binders have been sent to each parish with instructions for conducting this program. Orientation and informational meetings regarding Teaching Touching Safety are being held at the request of parishes. For more information on the children's program or an orientation meeting, please contact Patrick Haggarty at 406-594-1461.
