In partnership with Holy Rosary Parish in Bozeman, Oregon Catholic Press will present a morning for Catholic musicians on Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to noon. This Reading Session will be conducted by nationally recognized Catholic music authority Sister Mary Jo Quinn.
In addition to Sister Mary Jo’s three decades in parish and diocesan music settings, she has extensive experience in catechetical and liturgical formation. Her published articles and presentations focus on the challenges pastoral musicians face when attempting to enable the voice of the assembly. Her presentations commonly address the challenges of working with limited resources in small parish communities.
She is a former member of the NPM Board of Directors and newly elected to the DMMD Board (Directors of Music Ministry Division of NPM). Sister Mary Jo returned to the Diocese of Helena in fall of 2008 and directed the diocesan choir at the Chrism Mass on March 30. Sixty choir members from throughout the diocese participated.
The $25 registration fee ($20 for members of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians) includes 25 octavos, 15 of which will be taught at the Reading Session. Parishes purchasing three registrations receive a complimentary fourth registration.
“A Reading Session isn’t just about learning new music,” said Shannon McNerney, OCP’s executive manager of events. “This is a master class for musicians. Our clinicians highlight the spiritual dimension of the music that participants will carry with them long after they leave.”
Holy Rosary Parish is located at 220 W. Main St. in Bozeman.
