More than 115 high school students and young adult volunteers from around the Diocese of Helena gathered at Legendary Lodge Aug. 27-29 for the academic year’s first Catholic Youth Coalition Board meeting. The weekend included planning for upcoming events, among them the Junior High Rally and CYC Convention; faith building; and development of leadership skills. Father Roderick Ermatinger spoke to the board members about leadership. His talk titled “Good to Great.” The talk, based on the 2001 book “Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap and Others Don’t,” highlighted some of the ways members of the CYC Board can become better leaders. On Oct. 2-3, CYC board members gathered at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Parish in East Helena for their second meeting and after deliberation and prayer, they agreed that “Called to Rise” will be the theme of the CYC Convention. “It’s a theme that envelops our dependency on Christ and it emphasized powerful social justice overtones,” said Doug Tooke, youth and young adult minister for the Diocese of Helena.
