Thirty-two people from western Montana hiked to the top of St. Mary’s Peak, in the
Bitterroot Mountains, on Sunday, Aug. 15, to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of the
Blessed Virgin Mary. Father Jack Murray said Mass on the mountaintop. The trip marked
the 47th time that a group has hiked up St. Mary’s Peak to celebrate the Feast of the
Assumption. “The weather was outstanding, and we give glory to God for the success of
this year’s celebration,” said hike organizer Jeff Diepstraten. Hikers covered eight miles
round trip and ascended 2,400 feet.
