Guatemalan textiles, a silent auction, door prizes and music by Helena’s Darrell Casey and
Francisco Roman were part of Hazy Day, the annual fundraiser for the diocesan mission
in Guatemala. Father Jim Hazelton, for whom the day is named, chatted with people at the
festivities on Sunday, Sept. 12, at the Cathedral of St. Helena’s Brondel Center. Father
Hazelton has served at the mission for 45 years. Hazy Day included the opportunity to sign
up as a financial sponsor for a student at the mission school. Cathedral parishioner and
Carroll College student Mariah Ramirez was among those who did so. "I’ve got this great
opportunity to be educated and have a great life and a lot of people aren’t that lucky, and
so I might as well help somebody else," she said. Above, Father Jim Hazelton talks to
Carroll College students Kelsey Rohm and Stephanie Lincoln during the fundraiser.
Nearly 300 people attended Hazy Day this year.
