In celebrating the Feast of St. Lucy, a vision-impaired student at Butte Central Elementary School was adorned with a wreath of lights on her head and escorted by two children in the role of angels, as she carried treats to teachers. The name Lucy is derived from the Latin word for “light.” The treats were offered as a modification of a Swedish custom in which children take treats to their parents on the morning of the Feast of St. Lucy. Shown in the photo taken on the feast day, Dec. 13, are Abbey, as St. Lucy; Zoe as an angel; Carmie Dunbar, a fourth-grade teacher; and Connor as an angel.
