AGENCIES

  • Catholic Campaign for Human Development -- The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) committee evaluates national and local grant applicants and monitors recipient activities for organizations that seek to attack the causes of poverty by empowering the low-income community. Twenty-five percent of the annual collection each November remains in the Diocese of Helena to fund the program and local projects.
  • Aid to the Needy -- It is funded through the Diocesan Offertory Program (DOP). The Aid-to-the-Needy Committee helps evaluate and award grants to direct-service organizations and funds parishes for emergency assistance requests.
  • DPC Social Justice -- The Pastoral Office provides resources and programs for peace and justice education and consults with the Diocesan Pastoral Council in the area of social justice.
  • Native American Outreach Ministry (NAOM)-- This program aims to continue to identify, establish and deepen relationships with the American Indian Catholics living in the urban areas of the Diocese of Helena, and to help address specific concerns that impact the urban American Indian communities.

  • Montana Catholic Conference -- The Montana Catholic Conference (MCC), which is funded and supported by both Montana dioceses, allows the state's Catholic bishops a voice in the debate on public policy matters. Its executive director expresses church concerns to state legislators on moral aspects of proposed legislation in areas such as pro-life, health care, education, social needs, aging, children and families.
  • Guatemala Mission -- The Diocese of Helena supports a diocesan priest, Father James Hazelton, two sisters, Sister Anna Priester, BVM, and Sister Mary Waddell, BVM, two parishes and a medical clinic in Guatemala. This financial support provides pastoral services, health care and education for a community of over 60,000 people in the mission region. The mission director serves as liaison for donations and volunteers to the mission effort.
  • Catholic Relief Services -- The Pastoral Office coordinates programs of the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) programs, including the annual Operation Rice Bowl collection during Lent.
  • Small Christian Communities -- The Pastoral Office provides resources and assistance to parishes seeking to develop or enhance the experience of Small Christian Communities concept. Please contact the Pastoral Office at the Chancery for more information (406-442-5820).
