- Catholic
Campaign for Human Development -- The Catholic Campaign for
Human Development (CCHD) committee evaluates national and local grant
applicants and monitors recipient activities for organizations that
seek to attack the causes of poverty by empowering the low-income community.
Twenty-five percent of the annual collection each November remains in
the Diocese of Helena to fund the program and local projects.
- Aid
to the Needy -- It is funded through the Diocesan Offertory
Program (DOP). The Aid-to-the-Needy Committee helps evaluate and award
grants to direct-service organizations and funds parishes for emergency
assistance requests.
- DPC
Social Justice -- The Pastoral Office provides resources
and programs for peace and justice education and consults with the Diocesan
Pastoral Council in the area of social justice.
- Native
American Outreach Ministry
(NAOM)-- This program aims to continue
to identify, establish and deepen relationships with the American Indian
Catholics living in the urban areas of the Diocese of Helena, and to
help address specific concerns that impact the urban American Indian
communities.
- Montana
Catholic Conference -- The Montana Catholic Conference (MCC),
which is funded and supported by both Montana dioceses, allows the state's
Catholic bishops a voice in the debate on public policy matters. Its
executive director expresses church concerns to state legislators on
moral aspects of proposed legislation in areas such as pro-life, health
care, education, social needs, aging, children and families.
- Guatemala
Mission -- The Diocese of Helena supports a diocesan
priest, Father James Hazelton, two sisters, Sister Anna Priester, BVM,
and Sister Mary Waddell, BVM, two parishes and a medical clinic in Guatemala.
This financial support provides pastoral services, health care and education
for a community of over 60,000 people in the mission region. The mission
director serves as liaison for donations and volunteers to the mission
effort.
- Catholic
Relief Services -- The Pastoral Office coordinates programs
of the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) programs, including the annual
Operation Rice Bowl collection during Lent.
- Small
Christian Communities -- The Pastoral Office provides resources
and assistance to parishes seeking to develop or enhance the experience
of Small Christian Communities concept. Please contact the Pastoral
