  • Cursillo/Journey/Discovery -- Cursillo is a spiritual movement designed to enable lay Catholics to deepen their faith life and learn more about the church and how to live in Christian community. The primary objectives of Cursillo are to develop in Catholic adult Christians a consciousness of their power and mission to become active disciples of Jesus and leaders in the work of Christian renewal. In addition, the movement has been developed to sustain the laity as they participate in diocesan and parish programs and as they provide Christian leaven in civic, social, and economic life.

Since Cursillo is limited to Catholic members only, in the spirit of Vatican II, the Diocese of Helena also offers a three-day weekend experience entitled Journey. Journey serves to build bridges between Catholic and non-Catholic spouses and other Christians wanting an experience similar to Cursillo. The primary objectives of Journey are similar to Cursillo, encouraging both Catholic and non-Catholic brothers and sisters to be more active in their churches.

Discovery is a spiritual movement, similar to Cursillo/Journey, which seeks to share the experience of Christian community, personal renewal, and leadership development among inmates in the Montana prison system.

Please contact the Pastoral Office at the Chancery for more information (406-442-5820).

    Applications are available here.
  • Prayer & Retreat Outreach -- The Diocese of Helena supports or is affiliated with several entities that provide rich prayer experiences in a monastic or retreat environment. These include:
    • Kateri Northwest Ministry Institute - this is a Jesuit-sponsored formation program dedicated to the development of all ministries needed for reservation and urban-based Native American Catholic communities in the Northwest. Weekend programs are held in Great Falls and Spokane.
    • Living Water Contemplative Center -- This center offers nature as a mantra to silence the "self" and draw one into a contemplative wordless nearness to God.
    • The Sycamore Tree -- Located in the Swan Valley near Condon, the Sycamore Tree conducts a Discipleship Program and offers spiritual guidance to lay people. It is available for private retreats and contemplation. Father D. A. Okorn is the director.
  • Charismatic Renewal -- The Charismatic Renewal is a spiritual renewal movement through charismatic prayer and devotion to the Holy Spirit. This program is currently being revitalized in the Diocese of Helena.
