Pastoral & Renewal Services is responsible for program and process management and coordination in the areas of pastoral ministry and spiritual renewal. It is divided into several areas: Spiritual Renewal, Pastoral Ministry, Rural Life, Family Life, Liaison to Other Agencies, and Guatemala Missions.

Spiritual Renewal

This area includes the coordination of the Cursillo, Journey, and Discovery spiritual movements. It is also involved with Prayer and Retreat Outreach, which includes several entities that provide rich prayer experiences in a monastic or retreat environment. These include the Kateri Northwest Ministry Institute and Charismatic Renewal.


Charismatic Renewal

A movement of spiritual renewal through charismatic prayer and devotion to the Holy Spirit.

Cursillo/Journey

A spiritual movement designed to enable lay Catholics to deepen their faith life and learn more about the church and how to live in Christian community.

Pastoral Ministry

This area coordinates with and/or oversees the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, Aid to the Needy, Social Justice, the Guatemala Mission, Catholic Relief Services, and Small Christian Communities.


Rural Life

Pastoral Services aids the bishop in evaluating issues specific to rural life in the Diocese of Helena.


Family Life

Pastoral Services coordinates with marriage and family support movements, including Marriage Encounter, Engaged Encounter and Retrouvaille of Montana.


Liaison to Other Agencies

The director serves as a liaison with other agencies, including the Montana Catholic Conference, Catholic Social Services of Montana, the Montana Association of Churches, and the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women.


Catholic Campaign for Human Development

Coordinates social justice ministry, especially programs designed to attack the root causes of poverty. Coordinates the yearly collection, recommends programs for funding after assisting with their development, and coordinates parish target efforts.

Guatemala Missions

The Diocese of Helena supports a diocesan priest, two sisters, a laywoman, a large parish and a medical clinic in Guatemala. This financial support provides pastoral service, health care and education for a community of over 60,000 people in the mission region.

The mission manager serves as a liaison for donations to the mission effort.

Contributions toward the mission should be mailed to Pastoral Services in Helena, not to Guatemala.
