Seminarians for the Diocese of Helena

Jacob Nistler

Jacob Nistler Jacob Nistler grew up in Helena, where his family attends the Cathedral of St. Helena. The second oldest of nine children, he said his strongly Catholic family was a place where having priests as dinner guests was a common and natural occurrence.

Jacob’s growth in the faith and discernment of a possible call to the priesthood was a gradual and life-long process. As the possibility of such a call became more real, his parents, grandparents and other family members were tremendously supportive. The only opposition to the idea came from some of his female friends.

Jake acquired a strong work ethic from his earliest years. He has worked in construction, landscaping, building maintenance and as a cook. This summer he is head cook at Legendary Lodge, after having served as the assistant cook last year. He has also cooked at the Waterford in Helena, a retired living center directed by his dad.

Jake believes strongly in the life-changing power of prayer. “I started praying the rosary in seventh or eighth grade,” said Jake, “and my whole life seemed to take a step forward.” His advice: “Pray first and foremost,” he said. “Pray that you will have the faith to trust in the providence of God.”
