- The Office
of Youth and Young Adult Ministry provides specialized resource
and consultation services to parishes and Catholic schools of the diocese
in youth and young adult ministry. To that end, the Catholic
Youth Coalition (CYC) was established in 1977 as the umbrella
for all diocesan efforts in "total youth ministry" with and for young
people of high school age. Its three major dimensions are:
- Leadership
Training Camp
- Local
parish and Catholic High School youth groups
- Annual
Diocesan Youth Convention
- CYC
Leadership Training Camp is held annually at Legendary
Lodge to train youth, young adults, and youth ministers in a
total vision of youth ministry. Participants are specially selected
by their parishes or Catholic high schools for this week-long experience
of Christian community aimed at enabling participants to share and celebrate
their personal giftedness with and among their peers for the benefit
of all.
- The CYC
Diocesan Youth Convention brings together more than 500
youth and adults each year at Carroll College. Next year's convention
will be held April 17-19, 2009.
- Search
is an intense weekend experience of evangelization and catechesis
for high school youth or college-age young adults. For more information
at the respective level, contact your local parish or Catholic high
school, or Catholic campus ministry at any of the colleges or universities
in the diocese.
- World
Youth Day, held every three years, is a meeting of youth
from around the world with the Holy Father. WYD 2008 will be held in
Sydney, Australia; plans for diocesan participation will be announced
as they are developed.
